Washington State University Surplus Stores supports the university and individual departments by maximizing the reutilization and proper disposal of all university owned property through sales to WSU departments, priority organizations and the general public at fair market values.

Surplus provides support and services to university departments, other government agencies, non-profit organizations, schools and the general public:

  • Proper handling and disposal of university owned property. *Note, some surplus disposal requests will require funding from the department prior to service, such as trade in of equipment; transfers of equipment, large cleanouts, short notice are some examples. Contact surplus@wsu.edu for more information.
  • Sale of surplus to WSU departments and priority organizations.
  • Sale of surplus to the general public through public sales, live and online auctions.
  • Consignment sale opportunities for WSU departments
  • General storage for WSU departments

The General Storage Building has a limited amount of temporary storage space available to WSU departments. If your department is in need of temporary storage space, please email Surplus Stores. In the email include how many items you have along with descriptions and how long you plan to keep your items in storage. We will assign you a space if available and notify Space Management.

Before you place items in your assigned storage space please complete our Storage Identification Tag. It is available online as a pdf file.

Each item or each pallet should have an identification tag securely attached. The storage area has a 130 pound per square foot load capacity. Example: a 40” x 48” pallet must not weigh more than 1700 pounds. Appointments are required for all deliveries to General Storage at least 24 hours in advance to ensure that personnel are available. If you need Surplus Stores to pick up your items from your location and transport to storage, applicable fees will apply. Please plan for a 3-5 day period for your request to be completed. Surplus Stores is open to the general public every other Friday for pre-priced items and sold on a first come – first serve basis. Store hours are 10 am – 3 pm. Surplus Stores will also have live auctions at our location 3-4 times per year. Surplus Stores also sells items on online auction sites. Go to our Items For Sale page to get links to the online auction items. To receive notices about our upcoming auctions or about featured items that will be available in our Friday pre-priced sales. When shopping for your department please bring a signed Interdepartmental Requisition and  Invoice (IRI) for payment. Delivery is available for items sold to departments. Please email Surplus Stores for delivery fees.

WSU departments are welcome to shop from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday – Thursday. During our Friday public sales, we ask WSU departments to observe our public shopping hours, 10 am – 3 pm.

WSU departments looking to surplus items with high value can contact us by email for consignment sale opportunities.

In order to purchase from WSU Surplus Stores, non-profit organizations must have a current registration with the IRS as a 501c(3) or 501c(7) organization. Prior to making purchases, non-profit organizations must register with Surplus Stores using our agency registration form and provide a copy of their 501c(3) or (7) status confirmation from the IRS. Purchases can be made by buyers listed on  the agency registration form. A packing list will be provided at the time of the sale and an invoice will be sent to the billing address listed on the registration form.

Non-Profit organizations are welcome to shop from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday – Thursday. During our Friday public sales, we ask qualifying agencies to observe our public shopping hours, 10 am – 3 pm.

Agencies can register with us using our registration form. This form is used for billing and  contact information and it also gives authorization for members to make purchases on behalf of your agency. For agency purchases, we accept purchase orders. A packing list will be provided at the time of the sale and an invoice will be sent to the billing address listed on the registration form.

State Agencies, school districts and municipalities are welcome to shop from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday – Thursday. During our Friday public sales, we ask qualifying agencies to observe our public shopping hours, 10 am – 3 pm.

Surplus Stores will be open to the public every other Friday from 10am to 3pm. WSU departments, Agencies and NPO’s are also encourage to shop during the Friday public sales, but we ask they observe the same shopping hours as the public.
